YOURSAY | Irresponsible to view everything through racial lens

YOURSAY | ‘PAS doesn’t seem to care about future of Malaysia’s economy, huge debts, education.’

MP SPEAKS | 'Eyes like ours': PAS' exclusionary vision for M'sia

'Eyes, skin, blood': Don corrects PAS tunnel vision with reminders

MAT M DIN: Professor of architecture Tajuddin Mohd Rasdi’s intellectual criticism of PAS leaders about the controversial flag issue is very enlightening.

Discussing controversial issues intellectually instead of relying on sentimental racial and religious grounds should be the order of the day.

Using race and religion on the pretext of defending Malay and Islam, as nobody ever threatens the position of Malays and Islam, is irresponsible.

It gives rise to racial disunity and social disharmony. It also distracts the main focus of efforts to raise the development of the country.

To remain in power, PAS leaders should demonstrate and prove that they have the intellectual capabilities when participating in national discourses to gain support, not resorting to racial and religious grounds.

It is wise for Malay leaders, especially young Malay leaders from Umno and PAS, to take the advice of the professor seriously and put it into practice.

OCT: Malaysia is the only country where the daily news is mostly about race and religion. Nothing else matters.

Sadly, Malaysia has become more polarised instead of coming together in unity. Race and religion are going to destroy the fabric of Malaysia.

PAS doesn’t seem to care about the future of Malaysia’s economy, huge debts and education. PAS always argues over anything concerning 3R.

PAS doesn’t know how to compete but runs down on others when non-Malays are successful and resourceful.

Cynic: The Thirukkural says, “Learn all that you can learn well, and do that education proud by standing steadfast to that knowledge you’ve learned.” You are proof of that.

The layperson says that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. The learned man says that the sun does not rise or set, but it’s the rotation of the Earth that makes it seem so.

Divine forces do not make the tides rise or ebb; the gravitational forces of the moon do that.

While we may forgive the layperson for his simplicity, it’s not that easy to forgive the intellectually bankrupt fanatic myopic who sees everything around him in tones of skin colour, blood affiliations, race and religion.

Very little knowledge is always a very dangerous thing.

BlackBear2742: Thank you Tajuddin for highlighting this issue without putting race, religion and skin colour into jeopardy.

This is a very illuminated perspective and PAS should emulate it. Don’t always put skin colour, race and religion in the forefront.

Other matters are more important, such as success in science and technology. Tajuddin is a very suitable candidate to become prime minister.

His intelligence and knowledge are superior to many of our past and present prime ministers.

Justworld: Bukit Bendera MP Syerleena Abdul Rashid, all these racist outbursts against non-Malays were started by Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh and it seems to bring back support for Umno.

So these racist politicians are following suit to get notice and support from Malays to attain their goals of getting elected, maybe getting a ministership, power, money and ultimately pensions too.

Existential Turd: If you stand together with bigots, they would think you endorse them.

Too many times, Malay politicians insult the minorities, and then attempt to justify it by blaming the minorities for misunderstanding them.

They claim they did not mean to insult when that is precisely what they do.

On the other hand, they also claim minorities need to be mindful of what they say, wear and eat, otherwise, that would be construed as an insult and disrespectful to Malay and Islamic supremacy.

See the trend? It is not the act of insult or not that matters, it is who does the insult that matters.

MarioT: In a multiracial and religious country, the elected leaders are expected to lead by fostering friendship and peaceful co-existence amongst the people.

But instead of doing it, most of them play on race and religious issues to create undue anxiety and tension. They have their hidden agenda to split the nation.

Today, we are divided with each race trying to protect its rights and survival, which is mainly the fault of these irresponsible and unworthy politicians.

LimePanther5220: Shame on Malaysia for investigating Chinese tourists for waving their country’s flag. Why are people in our country so thickheaded?

We have to assess the context and reason for the flag-waving.

Were the tourists from China trying to undermine our country’s sovereignty or were they participating in a cultural event and waving their country’s flag to represent the participation of their own country?

The Malaysian flag has frequently been flown, and the Malaysian anthem has been played in international sporting events.

Malaysian athletes have regularly waved or wrapped the Malaysian flag around their bodies when they participate in and win games overseas.

Did the host countries ever summon them for investigation or accuse them of trying to undermine their countries’ sovereignty?

This is why a party like PAS should never rule this country. They are too unintelligent and experts only in playing 3R games.

Hmmm: Presumably, the Chinese nationals carried their national flags to set themselves apart from Malaysian Chinese as well as those from other countries.

They want to show their support for the festival. Not everything is done with bad intentions.

Checkmate: Is waving flags of another nation other than Malaysia considered an offence?

Then why do we wave the flags of the visiting heads of state when they visit Malaysia?

Or is the waving of China’s flag by its citizens or non-citizens not permissible?

We used to have a phobia of colour, balloons, rainbow watches, and shorts. We have now added flags to the mix.

What is happening to this country?
