MPs get a taste of KL floods

Lawmakers got a taste of what it’s like to be late for work because of flooded roads in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.

The MPs, who got caught in the rush hour flash floods, delayed the Parliament session by 30 minutes.

The flooding in the Klang Valley also hit at least two pre-schools, forcing children in one kindergarten to stand on tables as the waters rose dangerously high.

There was also a landslide in Taman Melawati, forcing 20 households to be evacuated.

PM's aide angers Umno

PKR's Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin developed a reputation for being a "giant killer" when he defeated former Malacca chief minister Ali Rustam in 2013.

In 2022, he set his sights on Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi but fell by just 348 votes.

In a recent podcast, Shamsul - now the prime minister's political secretary - said he would have challenged the result if not for a call from Anwar Ibrahim, telling him to back down as Pakatan Harapan was going to form a government with BN.

Shamsul's revelation, however, did not sit well with Umno leaders, who derided him as a sore loser.

GISBH children malnourished, punished

Over 200 of the children rescued from Global Ikhwan Services and Businesses Holdings (GISBH) show signs of being malnourished, said Women, Family, and Community Development Minister Nancy Shukri.

She added that about 70 had moderate cognitive impairments, while another 30 had severe cognitive issues.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail alleged that some of the rescued children were forced to do 500 “ketuk ketampi” (ear squats) as punishment for mere infractions like not properly queuing when waiting for food.
