Set pay cap for federal statutory bodies’ top guns, PAC tells govt

Bluemountains: It is quite apparent there are no guidelines when it comes to the salaries and perks for those in charge of statutory bodies and government-linked companies.

There is also no control over the payment of salaries or perks to menteris besar and chief ministers, resulting in many of them drawing significantly higher salaries than the prime minister himself.

The practice of allowing them to determine their salaries and perks must be put to a stop immediately.

It’s an abuse of the system as the quantum of salaries paid is not based on any performance indicator.

A Better Msia: The salaries of these top guns in government bodies are absurd, especially due to weak performance expectations and their being nothing more than political appointees.

About 10 million citizens are beneficiaries of quoted government-linked companies that practise annual salary increases for staff and fees for directors without committing to annual dividend growth or increase.

Good suggestion from the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to set a ceiling so there will be no excessive payments.

Perhaps the PAC can also recommend a cap for the pensions that politicians can receive upon retirement. Why is this not talked about?

Coward: The solution is better oversight, perhaps giving Parliament a veto on compensation and transparency where the total pay is made public. Otherwise, it is just window dressing.

Bornean: Yes, no huge unreasonable allowances and limit one person to holding no more than two positions.

ScarletGopher4958: What about the number of official positions and salaries and allowances given too?

Agree with @Bornean that two should be the limit for most. I would suggest, however, that the most important is to get the most honest, best and competent people and pay them well enough, accompanied by bonuses for achievements and results.

Stress more on having honest leaders and officials with honesty defined in all aspects.

Fools seldom differ: It’s high time the government imposed a cap on the salaries of these executives.

Collecting exorbitant salaries and perks, yet knowing next to nothing about their jobs.

Darmakochi: Dear PAC chairperson Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, this is a timely and very important proposal. While we are at this, there must be a ruling that nobody should get more than one pension.

Don’t delay new minimum wage hike for private sector, govt told

Fed Up bodoh sombong: These politicians are suppressing the salaries of common folk to unrealistic levels and should be given the same salaries.

They can test it for themselves and see whether they can survive under present conditions with a family (spouse and four children).

Politicians enjoy huge allowances that are not reflected in their basic salary.

If we are still not competitive to lure foreign investors with the new liveable salaries, then it is a problem caused by bad management and not the workers.

On the Other Hand: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is only interested in giving civil servants huge undeserved pay increases, despite the civil service being unproductive and bloated.

The country cannot afford such wastage. Anwar is not interested in the private sector.

These people will have to bear with the inflation caused by the huge pay increases given to the civil service and the consequent rise in inflation.

Did anyone tell Anwar that he is an incompetent finance minister? Perhaps someone should.

Pardeep: I will comment as an employer in the security guard business. The increase in minimum wage isn’t an issue for the private sector.

We have always complied and moved forward. What is the government doing for this industry to get employers a minimum rate per hour?

It’s evident, in the past with minimum wage hikes, the government has never had our back.

It’s only fair if the government backs employers who are taxpayers, which keeps the economy moving.

To be clear, we are all happy to comply with the minimum wage increase, provided the minimum rate per hour is also looked at.

OrangeKucing5562: Any increase in the basic salary will cause a spiral effect in the ceiling price of consumer goods.

Anwar should find ways to reduce the costs of goods and not keep increasing salaries, especially for civil servants only.

Is Anwar a prime minister for civil servants only?

Max C: Some security guards working 12-hour shifts are still receiving RM1,500 without paid weekly rest days and compulsory public holidays.

Kamrul: People who have no idea about economics and inflation making policies that affect businesses.

Of course, Malaysia will go down the drain quickly.
