YOURSAY | Regional mouse roaring on global stage

YOURSAY | ‘Get matters right in Malaysia first before preaching to rest of the world’

Anwar should form new world order to fight Israel - Mat Sabu

Gerard Lourdesamy: A regional mouse wants to roar on the global stage. First, get governance, the economy and institutional reforms right in Malaysia before preaching to the rest of the world.

Malaysia itself practices discrimination based on affirmative action for the majority to the exclusion of minorities. Is that a just, fair and equitable system?

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is full of hot air and very little substance. Grandstanding is his best tool to project his inflated ego and myopic view of issues.

Amanah President Mohamad Sabu should be rudely reminded that Anwar's latest anti-West tirade in his expression to join Brics (Brazil, Russia, India and China) intergovernmental organisation has overlooked the fact that except for Iran every one of the member countries has full diplomatic, trade, scientific, cultural and security relations with Israel.

So far, their response to the war in Gaza has been muted and predictable. So, what new world order are we talking about - an anti-Israel alliance? It will never happen.

Just look at the silence from Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Arab states except for Qatar on the killing of top Hamas and Hezbollah leaders last week in Tehran and Beirut.

Despite all the anger, Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Morocco and Sudan refuse to sever ties with Israel. The same with many Muslim countries in Central Asia and Africa. Even Indonesia is very circumspect in its public statements. They are being pragmatic.

We are being dogmatic. Since Anwar wants to be the champion of Palestine, why not start by severing all ties with the West and countries supporting Israel including Japan and South Korea? Ask them to relinquish their assets and investments in Malaysia.

Malaysia must divest from these countries. Stop sending our students to Western countries under the Public Services Department, Mara and Petronas scholarships. Insist that Malaysians with permanent residency in Western countries liquidate their assets in these countries and return home.

Malaysia must make these tough sacrifices to prove that it has the moral high ground and the monopoly over virtue. As they say, put your money where your mouth is. Only then Anwar can be a true leader and defender of Palestine.

BrownRabbit3061: Malaysia can support Palestinians in terms of manpower, rescue, military, and money but not become a leader to fight Israel.

Pakatan Harapan and Anwar must make Malaysia an economically thriving country first and drastically improve the education system. With better education opportunities and job opportunities, Malaysians will not be bothered with Perikatan Nasional, especially PAS.

Non-Malays must be given the chance to study in Malaysia to compete with Malays. Only with competition, Malaysia can reach its potential with better income for all Malaysians.

Do all those things first for Malaysia before doing anything else.

Harimau1: We need rational, pragmatic and wise leaders who can think about what is good for the country and its people.

What world order? We already have the UN, the World Court and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. What other world order can beat these?

Let's just get down to developing our own country.

Bobby0: The problem is that Malays are all the time misled by their leaders. The real truth is never told to them, and they live in a fairy tale world.

The truth on the ground in the Middle East is a completely different scenario.

The fight is between Iran's proxies (Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis) against the rest. Israel is the only nation that stands in the way of Iran's ambition to get its grip over the whole area.

The Arab nations recognised the right for Israel to exist, as well as the right to their land. It is written in the Holy Books as well, they know that both, the Arabs and the Israelites are direct descendants of Abraham.

The second scenario is that Israel is sacrificing its people to bring peace to the region. They are taking on Iran's proxies single-handedly. That is why the Arab nations are grateful to Israel and they have kept themselves out of the conflict.

So, Mat Sabu, what are you talking about when you say Anwar should form a coalition to fight Israel? Which Arab nation will come forward to support the struggle?

All of you are opportunists, using the poor dilemma of the Palestinian people to further your own political goals. Like the late, assassinated, Ismail Haniyeh who profited from the suffering of his own people.

The whole world knows the truth, including the Indonesians. They have kept taking sides in the conflict, and so have the many nations of the world.

Only in this nation is this conflict abused by the politicians and certain NGOs to gain political support and to enhance the NGO's finances.

Boycotts affect the bread-and-butter issues of our own people and even the business owners, who have nothing to do with the conflict.

Knucklehead: Many will not vote come GE16, as the outcome makes no difference. Why bother? They treat us like fools, so why bother?

For all we know, PAS might be better once in office (government). Nobody knows for sure.

The point is, why bother voting? This person does not speak for the voters who elected him. He is more interested in Gaza and Hamas than in Malaysia or Malaysians.

Remember an incident in Kepala Batas, Penang in August last year, where an innocent Malaysian Indian student got a telling-off from Anwar for seeking fairness (for raising the issue of the country’s quota system in education)?

That incident still rings in our heads - that's how power has gone to his head.
