Reuters, US Embassy refute 'terrorism-linked sanctions' report

News wire Reuters and the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur have denied a report claiming that four Malaysian-based companies were subjected to new sanctions over alleged support for financing terror activities.

The false report circulated on social media last night following formal discussions between US State Department officials and several Malaysian ministers. It was made to look like it was published by Reuters.
