YOURSAY | Mahathir wants return of favour despite Sheraton betrayal

YOURSAY | ‘Yet again, we can confirm Mahathir has selective memory.’

Dr M: This is how Anwar repays me, Daim for helping him in PD polls

Proarte: Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad lost his deposit in Langkawi, which is part of his home state of Kedah, during the recent general election.

It showed that his impact on Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s Port Dickson campaign trail was probably minuscule.

What Mahathir did have a direct impact on was the Sheraton Move as he seemed to have no intention of handing power over to Anwar during his second premiership.

Mahathir is good at playing victim but the real issue is whether he or former finance minister Daim Zainuddin stole money.

Former finance minister Daim Zainuddin

What is so wrong about both of them being investigated? Nobody is above the law.

The rakyat is cynical about big fish like Daim and Mahathir being held accountable by a system which they controlled while they were in power.

Mahathir in effect revealed that the prime minister is virtually immune from prosecution compared to a former prime minister like him and his titled cronies like Daim, both of whom have “Tuns”. Yes, the power of incumbency is a reality in politics.

Be that as it may, if they have stolen, Daim and Mahathir should have the book thrown at them. The book can be thrown at Anwar when he is out of office and if he is also found to be corrupt.

IndigoTrout2522: Mahathir is doing and saying all things to distract MACC from investigating him and his cronies. It is getting too close.

Anwar and the government must not fall into his tricks and manipulative “campaigns”.

MACC

MACC should expedite its investigations without fear or favour. Mahathir is now irrelevant and has little or no influence, but will not stop being “creative” to divide the people with his racial remarks and to bring down the government.

Pakatan Harapan was winning the 14th general election, and he jumped onto the bandwagon.

Anwar agreed to support him to be prime minister and then he would take over. Mahathir failed to honour this agreement.

Instead, he created political instability with the Sheraton Move. Without Harapan’s support, he not only lost the Langkawi seat but his deposit in the 15th general election.

Anwar and the government must move on to strengthen the economy, implement structural reforms, unite the country, and serve the people well.

RealKeluargaMalaysia: Is Mahathir saying the prime minister must show gratitude to him for all his support in the past by ignoring or even subverting the law?

Based on that logic, then all criminals current and future should just help politicians get elected or public servants get appointed in high places so they can escape the law and happily continue all manner of criminal activities with impunity.

Perhaps that is why Malaysia is what it is today, thanks to Mahathir and people who think like him.

FellowMalaysian: Mahathir giving Anwar a helping hand when he contested in Port Dickson was hardly memorable.

He had done unpardonable injustices against Anwar after he was dragged into jail in 1998.

Anwar mustn’t forgive Mahathir’s tacit reluctance to hand over his prime minister post. This inevitably led to the infamous Sheraton Move.

It’s time that this curmudgeon learns some humility, admits his mistakes, and starts to appease his maker instead.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim

Coward: Yet again, we confirm Mahathir has selective memory.

While he may have helped Anwar to become an MP, Anwar more than made up for it when he helped the nonagenarian become prime minister for the second time.

Also, he conveniently forgot campaigning for Anwar was a quid pro quo for making him prime minister and, as his ally at the time, Mahathir had the moral duty to help him.

Fed up bodoh sombong: Mahathir, have you ever wondered how the Harapan supporters who supported you in the 14th general election were played out when you resigned from the prime minister position, causing a collapse of the government?

Was it because you knew, with Anwar around, you and your cronies were having sleepless nights? Why worry if you have not done any wrong?

By the way, you need not protect your entrepreneurial children. They can defend themselves if they are innocent.

Picture: Citizen Mahathir, please feel sorry for Anwar. He is so reluctant to let MACC investigate your wrongdoings, but his hands are tied. He has no choice as he wants MACC to be free from any political interference.

Therefore, he has to keep quiet and let MACC do their job. If you or your family are clean, you have absolutely nothing to fear.

Mirzan Mahathir

You should welcome them to investigate as soon as possible. Or you are afraid MACC will find out something you hide?

That cannot be right. So, sit tight and relax.

OrangeKucing5562: Mahathir, you helped Anwar with the sole motive of removing former prime minister Najib Razak.

You played out Anwar.

You said Anwar is not suitable to be prime minister and resigned without even discussing it with your coalition government.

Don’t ask for sympathy now and pretend to be a good man. You look scared now with the impending investigation coming.

Undecided: Mahathir thinks ahead and always does things to his advantage. He is cunning and is never easy to pin down.

By helping Anwar in Port Dickson, he now has the opportunity to use it against him and paint Anwar as ungrateful.

He conveniently forgot his past cruelty towards Anwar by putting him in jail and refusing to hand over the prime minister’s position to him at an appropriate time as agreed.

BlueShark1548: Is Anwar expected to look another way if a crime is committed by his strong supporters?

Anwar took an oath before the Agong and also, as a good Muslim, he should discharge his duties as prime minister without fear or favour.

The old man expects favours from Anwar even after he “played” Anwar out.
