Sofea Helmy’s uphill battle to support local music talents

MALAYSIANSKINI | In her quest to build a platform for the local music scene, Sofea Helmy, 19, has not only faced objections from those within the industry but received threats and derogatory comments leading her to lodge a police report last year.

Despite this, Sofea still hangs on to her music project - Kumandang Zine - which she began last year with the intent of organising live music events.

Speaking to Malaysiakini at a cafe in Taman Paramount, Sofea lamented about the objections she received from some of her contemporaries in the local music scene.
