Covid-19 (Jan 7): 571 cases, 4 deaths

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 571 new daily Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, bringing the total cumulative cases to 5,029,908.

Active cases currently stood at 11,431, down by 18.3 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Sarawak (40)
Malacca (32)
Kedah (31)
Penang (31)
Negeri Sembilan (26)
Pahang (21)
Johor (17)
Perak (15)
Sabah (15)
Terengganu (9)
Putrajaya (8)

Labuan (2)
Perlis (1)

Another four deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which none were declared as "brought in dead".

Over the past week, an average of 3.0 people was reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 4.4, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the downtrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 36,874 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

The states that recorded deaths yesterday were Kedah (1), Perak (1), Sabah (1), and Selangor (1).

There are 585 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised, of which 34 are in intensive care.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Selangor (65), followed by Sabah (43) and Kedah (36).
