Covid-19 (Jan 6): 543 new cases, 4 deaths

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 543 new daily Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, bringing the total cumulative cases to 5,029,337.

Active cases currently stood at 11,415, down by 19.2 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Kuala Lumpur (87)
Malacca (46)
Sarawak (44)
Penang (34)
Perak (30)
Johor (25)
Putrajaya (24)
Kedah (22)
Negeri Sembilan (19)
Sabah (14)
Terengganu (11)
Kelantan (10)
Pahang (10)
Perlis (3)
Labuan (2)

Another four deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which one was declared as "brought in dead".

Over the past week, an average of 2.6 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 4.4, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the downtrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 36,870 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

The state with the highest number of deaths was Selangor (2) followed by Pahang (1) and Putrajaya (1).

There are 554 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 33 are in intensive care.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Selangor (76) followed by Sabah (61) and Kedah (31).
