Covid-19 (Jan 1): 420 new cases, 4 deaths

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 420 new daily Covid-19 cases yesterday.

Active cases currently stood at 11,871, down 23.6 percent compared to 14 days ago. Active cases have not been this low since December 2020.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Kuala Lumpur (55)
Penang (46)
Malacca (31)
Sarawak (26)
Kedah (25)
Perak (23)
Sabah (14)
Johor (13)
Kelantan (13)
Negeri Sembilan (11)
Pahang (8)
Putrajaya (8)
Terengganu (7)
Labuan (1)

Another four deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which two were declared as "brought in dead".

Over the past week, an average of 3.7 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 5.1, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the downtrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 36,857 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

There are 609 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 30 are in intensive care.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Selangor (62) followed by Sabah (31) and Johor (24).
