Cogito Ergo Sum: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has passed the first and probably most important test of all. The opposition bloc did everything to delay, deny, and derail the confidence vote. And failed.

We are so fortunate that this bunch is not running the country. Their conduct was totally unbecoming of Parliament. The opposition’s main duty is to check and balance the executive branch and not to disrupt the matters in the House.

The prime minister showed he is quite capable of handling this group of ruffians.

Clever voter: Based on observation, it was obvious how poor the opposition was in both substance and form. They came without any preparation especially when it came to the agreement signed by the parties supporting the government.

The economic and social problems are real. If this is all the opposition could offer, then there is something very wrong with the quality of policymakers.

It also means that Anwar will not have his way, he too has to consider the diversity of legacies he inherited.

The country is in desperate need to bridge growing gaps between regions and people. Repercussions of the radicalisation of opinions through misleading campaigns are real.

Above all, it's a good mandate. The real job to repair and reboot the broken system must start.

JW: Bloc vote? What's the big deal? And why this is such a major issue for Perikatan Nasional (PN)? What they could not bring up were issues of substance. They spent all day getting nowhere.

Just play the role of the opposition. Make sure it is done for the betterment of Malaysians, not this group or that group.

If you can do that, then you will be deemed worthy of the distinction of an "honourable" opposition that even those who never voted for you would take what you say seriously, or even give you support.

Can you do that, PN? Or do you want to just continue with your political whining and undermine any semblance of unity attempted for the country?

Mushiro: Former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang were all out to prove they had the majority support and Muhyiddin was attacking Anwar non-stop even to the extent of being rude to the Agong.

Muhyiddin also became a law expert and he argued about the government agreement.

When Anwar outsmarted them with the agreement and worked very well with the other parties, Muhyiddin and PN still thought they had a chance in the confidence vote.

Today, when the speaker got 147 votes, PN realised it was game over, and they then played a different game. It was ‘sour grapes’ and childish too.

I will not be surprised if this is still not the end for them. Anwar and the government should move on with their plans for the people and country.

AnotherKomentar: PN and PAS MPs need to be schooled about our parliamentary democracy before they can fulfil their roles as elected representatives.

What is shockingly disappointing is their disrespect for the parliamentary institution through their idiotic heckling and unruly interjections calculated to disrupt MPs who are speaking and denigrate parliamentary proceedings.

The speaker should eject offending members so that Parliament proceedings don’t become farcical and derisive.

Vijay47: Congratulations, Johari Abdul, on being bestowed the honour of being elected speaker of Parliament. As you will soon come to experience, heavy is the crown on the head of the one holding this position.

But sir, a gentle reminder. You might be a PKR veteran, a politician of many years standing, but when you sit on that chair lofty in responsibility, you leave behind loyalty to party and personality, you serve only Parliament and are guided only by the Constitution.

You have your task cut out for you. Perhaps your first mission would be to restore Parliament’s once immaculate image so savagely damaged by your predecessor.

Former Dewan Rakyat speaker Azhar Azizan Harun can now contemplate on his record as speaker, what he did and did not, and what might have been. Such was his performance that the sad reality is that you can hardly do worse.

We have a new prime minister, and a new ruling coalition government even if its composition and strength are not our preference. We look forward to you leading Parliament in the fair and just manner required of you as speaker.

Thesaint: I hope the supporters and voters of their respective MPs will switch off their social media and focus on the performance of their MPs in Parliament. I am sure many got a flavour of the competencies - or the lack of - and priorities of some of their MPs based on the arguments put forward today.

Fair Play: What an anticlimax after all the hype and possibilities of MPs being removed from their tenure for breaking the anti-hopping law.

The biggest surprise is - Anwar’s greatest victory is the simplest - in the form of a voice vote of support.

Maya: Whatever is said, the vote of confidence has been passed. Let's not waste any more time. Just move on. People are dying from floods and landslides. Prices are hitting the roof. Let’s get on with work. Enough of politicking.
