Covid-19 (Oct 16): 1,712 new cases, 2 deaths

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 1,712 new Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, bringing the total cumulative infections to 4,867,192.

Active cases stood at 23,892, up 2.4 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Another two deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which one was declared as "brought in dead". The deaths occurred in Kedah and Pahang.

Over the past week, an average of 2.4 people were reported to have died of the disease, while the average for the past 30 days was 3.7, indicating that such deaths are on the downtrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 36,417 deaths have been attributed to the coronavirus.

There have been 43 reported Covid-19 deaths this month. For comparison, there were 158 last month and 247 in August.

There are 1,002 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 36 are in intensive care.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Sabah (78) followed by Selangor (50) and Johor (49).
