Covid-19 (Aug 19): 3,490 new cases, 6 deaths

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 3,490 new Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, bringing the total cumulative infections to 4,752,490.

Active cases stood at 42,767, down 8.8 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Another six deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday.

Over the past week, an average of 8.6 people were reported to have died of the disease, while the average for the past 30 days was 8.4, indicating that such deaths are on the uptrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 36,130 deaths have been attributed to the coronavirus.

There have been 161 reported Covid-19 deaths this month. For comparison, there were 204 deaths last month and 89 in June.

Deaths were reported in Malacca (2), Selangor (2), Johor (1) and Pahang (1).

There are 1,454 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 75 are in intensive care.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Selangor (117) followed by Sabah (69) and Johor (61).
