Covid-19 (Aug 16): 3,429 new cases, 9 deaths

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 3,429 new daily Covid-19 cases yesterday.

Active cases currently stood at 40,741, down 12.4 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Another nine deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which one was declared as "brought in dead".

Deaths were reported in Pahang (2), Selangor (2), Malacca (1), Negeri Sembilan (1), Perak (1), Penang (1) and Terengganu (1).

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 36,102 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

There have been 133 reported Covid-19 deaths this month. For comparison, there were 204 deaths last month and 89 deaths in June.

There are 1,563 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 84 are in intensive care.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Selangor (136) followed by Sabah (88) and Johor (68).
