Covid-19 (July 23): 4,816 new cases, 9 deaths

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 4,816 new daily Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, bringing the total cumulative cases to 4,648,931.

Active cases stood at 49,547, up 38.2 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Another nine deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, one of which was declared as "brought in dead".

The states with the highest deaths were Kedah (3) and Perak (3) followed by Malacca (1), Sarawak (1), and Selangor (1).

Over the past week, an average of 9.0 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 5.6, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on an uptrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 35,911 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

There are 1,535 Covid-19 patients hospitalised of which 49 are in intensive care.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Selangor (177) followed by Sabah (93) and Johor (62).
