Covid-19 (June 5): 1,358 new cases, 2 deaths

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 1,358 new Covid-19 cases yesterday.

New daily infections have stayed above the 1,000 mark since May 3. For the epidemiological week ending June 5, the estimated R-number was 0.91.

Active cases stood at 22,183, down 11.8 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Kedah (29)

Sarawak (22)

Another two deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday in Sarawak and Selangor respectively.

Over the past week, an average of 3.3 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 3.7, indicating that such deaths are on the downtrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 35,688 deaths have been attributed to the coronavirus.

There were 129 Covid-19 deaths last month, 564 deaths in April and 2,235 in March.

Some 904 Covid-19 patients are hospitalised of which 26 are in intensive care.

The number of people who are in hospital due to Covid-19 has not been this low since Oct 4, 2020.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Selangor (124) followed by Johor (83) and Sabah (55).
