Covid-19 deaths (Feb 17): 21 reported fatalities, total at 32,180

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported a total of 21 new Covid-19 fatalities yesterday (Feb 16), bringing the cumulative death toll to 32,180.

The reported deaths were in Sabah (9), Johor (4), Perak (4), Kedah (2), Kelantan (1) and Negeri Sembilan (1).

Malaysia has the highest number of deaths per capita in the Asean and East Asian regions with 972 deaths per one million population.

No new deaths were reported in Malacca, Pahang, Perlis, Penang, Sarawak, Selangor, Terengganu, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya.

An average of 12 Covid-19 deaths was reported daily in the last 30 days compared to the seven-day average of 16, indicating an uptrend.

To date, 577 Covid-19 deaths have been reported this month.

A total of 780 Covid-19 deaths were reported in January 2022, 1,174 in December 2021, 1,612 in November 2021 and 2,704 in October 2021.

As of yesterday, there were 202,884 active Covid-19 cases. This is an increase of 114.7 percent from the 94,515 active infections a week ago.

Compared to 30 days ago, the number of active cases has increased by 399.5 percent from 40,618.
