Covid-19 (Feb 3): 5,720 new cases reported

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 5,720 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative infections to 2,887,780.

The fresh infections today comprised 5,474 Malaysians (95.7 percent) and 716 non-citizens (12.5 percent).

They were more than the number of Covid-19 patients who recovered, which totalled 3,968. 

This is expected to contribute to a rise in the number of active cases. On the flip side, serious Covid-19 cases remain low.

  • Patients in ICU: 114
  • Intubated: 56

As of today, the number of Covid-19 patients (including suspected ones) in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 8.1 percent lower compared to a week ago.

Those who require intubation have also declined by 20.0 percent from a week ago.

The Health Ministry will only publish today's breakdown of new cases by states after midnight on its CovidNow portal.

The breakdown by states for yesterday (Feb 2), where 5,736 new cases were reported, is as follows:

To date, 332 Covid-19 clusters are still active, including 15 new clusters reported today.

The ongoing clusters have seen an increase of 21.2 percent from the 274 active clusters a week ago.
