Covid-19 deaths (Jan 28): 10 reported fatalities, spike in infections

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported a total of 10 new Covid-19 fatalities yesterday (Jan 27), bringing the cumulative death toll to 31,940.

Malaysia has the highest number of deaths per capita in the Asean and East Asian regions with 967 deaths per 1 million population.

There were three new cases of victims who were "brought-in-dead" before they were confirmed to have Covid-19.

The highest number of deaths was reported in Selangor (3) followed by Kelantan (2), Kuala Lumpur (2), Johor (1), Perak (1) and Sarawak (1).

There were an average of 20.2 reported deaths daily over the past week.

Over the past week, the figure was 12.4, which suggests that the number of reported deaths are trending down.

This month alone, 453 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

A total of 1,174 Covid-19 deaths were reported in December 2021, 1,612 in November 2021, 2,704 in October 2021 and 9,678 in September 2021.

As of yesterday, there were 46,805 active Covid-19 cases.

The number of active cases has been trending up over the past week [see chart below].
