Covid-19 (Jan 19): 3,229 cases, infectivity rate at 0.99
COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 3,229 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative infections to 2,817,163.
They were more than the number of Covid-19 patients who recovered, which totalled 2,848. This is expected to contribute to a rise in the number of active cases.
- Patients in ICU: 162
- Intubated: 76
As of today, the number of Covid-19 patients, including suspected ones, in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 24.7 percent lower compared to a week ago.
Those who require intubation have also declined by 27.6 percent from a week ago.
The hospital utilisation rate stands at 65.3 percent while the intensive care unit utilisation rate is at 54.8 percent.
On a week-on-week basis, the national hospital admission of confirmed Covid-19 patients has declined by 14.9 percent.
Meanwhile, the infectivity rate inched up slightly to 0.99. The value must be kept under 1.0 to prevent exponential growth in new cases.
Several states and territories have R-numbers above that threshold, namely Kuala Lumpur (1.08), Negeri Sembilan (1.06), Malacca (1.04), Johor (1.03), Kedah (1.03), Sabah (1.01), and Selangor (1.01).
To date, 201 Covid-19 clusters are still active, including 20 new clusters reported today.
The ongoing clusters have seen an increase of 12.3 percent from the 179 active clusters a week ago.
