Covid-19 (Jan 17): 2,342 cases, infectivity rate at 1.0

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 2,342 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative infections to 2,810,689.

The fresh infections today is the lowest in 271 days, since Apr 21.

Nationally, the number of hospital admissions of confirmed Covid-19 patients in the last seven days have declined by 13.1 percent compared to the preceding week.

The hospitalisation utilisation rate stood at 65.6 percent while the intensive care unit utilisation rate was at 52.7 percent. 

Meanwhile, the infectivity rate is at 1.0. If the value is sustained above 1.0, it will lead to an exponential growth in fresh infections.

The Health Ministry will only publish today's breakdown of new cases by states after midnight on its CovidNow portal.

The breakdown by states for yesterday (Jan 16), where 3,010 new cases were reported, is as follow:
