Covid-19 (Jan 8): 3,251 cases, hospital bed usage at 66.7pct

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 3,251 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative infections to 2,783,331.

The fresh infections were more than the number of Covid-19 patients who recovered, which totalled 3161. This is expected to contribute to a rise in the number of active cases.

• Patients in ICU: 243
• Intubated: 113

Nationally, the number of hospital admissions of confirmed Covid-19 patients in the last seven days have declined by 4.8 percent compared to the preceding week.

The hospital bed utilisation rate stands at 66.7 percent while the intensive care unit utilisation rate is at 57.6 percent.

The Health Ministry will only publish today's breakdown of new cases by states after midnight on its CovidNow portal.

The breakdown by states for yesterday (Jan 7), where 3,381 new cases were reported, is as follow:
