Covid-19 (Jan 7): 3,381 cases; Sabah, Labuan R-number above 1.00
COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 3,381 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative infections to 2,780,080.
The national R-number had decline to 0.96 as of yesterday.
However, Sabah and Labuan are reporting R-numbers above the 1.00 mark.
The R-number in Sabah has been above 1.00 for three days.
In Labuan, the number of new cases yesterday (20) was the highest since Dec 13.
An R-number above 1.00 suggests increasing infections, while a number below 1.00 suggest a decelaration in the spread of Covid-19.
Nationally, the number of hospital admissions of confirmed Covid-19 patients in the last seven days have declined by 5.2 percent compared to the preceding week.
The Health Ministry will only publish today's breakdown of new cases by states after midnight on its CovidNow portal.
The breakdown by states for yesterday (Jan 6), where 3,543 new cases were reported, is as follows:

The fresh infections today comprised 3,247 Malaysians (96 percent) and 134 non-citizens (4 percent).
They were surpassed by a total of 3,447 Covid-19 patients who recovered today. This is expected to help reduce the number of active cases.
Patients in ICU: 254
Intubated: 114
As of today, the number of Covid-19 patients (including suspected ones) in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 5.6 percent lower compared to a week ago.
Those who require intubation have also declined by 30.1 percent from a week ago.
To date, 182 Covid-19 clusters are still active, including 6 new clusters reported today.
The ongoing clusters have fallen by 16.1 percent from the 217 active clusters a week ago.
