Covid-19 deaths (Dec 27): 19 reported fatalities, total at 31,334
COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 19 new Covid-19 deaths yesterday (Dec 26), bringing the cumulative death toll to 31,334.
Covid-19 deaths continue to be on a clear and steady downtrend over the past three months. Nevertheless, Malaysia has the highest number of deaths per capita in the Asean and East Asian regions with 950 deaths per 1 million population.
Terengganu, with five fatalities, saw the highest number of new deaths, followed by Perak (4), Penang (3), Johor (2), Kedah (1), Negeri Sembilan (1), Sabah (1), Sarawak (1) and Kuala Lumpur (1).
No new deaths were reported in Kelantan, Malacca, Pahang, Perlis, Selangor, Labuan and Putrajaya.
To date, 1,021 Covid-19 deaths have been reported this month.
A total of 1,612 Covid-19 deaths were reported in November, 2,704 in October, 9,678 in September and 7,641 in August.
As of yesterday, there were 44,815 active cases. This is a reduction of 16.2 percent from the 53,484 active infections a week ago.
Compared to 30 days ago, the number of active cases has fallen by 33.7 percent from 67,548.
