Covid-19 (Dec 8): 5,020 cases, S'wak has lowest R-naught
COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 5,020 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative infections to 2,673,019.
The fresh infections were more than the number of Covid-19 patients who recovered, which totalled 4,525. This is expected to contribute to a rise in the number of active cases.
As of last night, the R-naught has reached 0.99 - an uptrend over the past week.
The R-naught is above 1.00 in Perlis (1.13), Labuan (1.06), Malacca (1.03), Penang (1.03), and Negeri Sembilan (1.01). The lowest is in Sarawak (0.74).
A figure above 1.00 would indicate an outbreak that is growing and accelerating its pace.
- Patients in ICU: 428
- Intubated: 237
As of today, the number of Covid-19 patients (including suspected ones) in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 14.4 percent lower compared to a week ago.
Those who require intubation have also declined by 8.1 percent from a week ago.
The hospitalisation of Covid-19 patients is continuing on a 30-day downtrend.

The ongoing clusters have seen an increase of 8.4 percent from the 226 active clusters a week ago.
