Covid-19 (Dec 7): 4,965 new cases
COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 4,965 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative infections to 2,667,999.
The fresh infections were more than the number of Covid-19 patients who recovered, which totalled 4,817. This is expected to contribute to a rise in the number of active cases.
The R-number of Covid-19 has been creeping up steadily over the week, reaching 0.99 yesterday. This still means the outbreak was still in decline - albeit slowly - since the number is below the 1.00 threshold.
Several states have an R-number of 1.00 and above, namely Perlis (1.13), Kuala Lumpur (1.00), Malacca (1.00), and Perak (1.00).
An R-number of exactly 1.00 indicates the outbreak has reached a plateau, whereas any number above that indicates the outbreak is growing at an accelerating pace.
Meanwhile, the 271 cases reported in Sabah today is its lowest since July 14, while Selangor's 868 cases is the lowest since Nov 9.
- Patients in ICU: 437
- Intubated: 240
As of today, the number of Covid-19 patients (including suspected ones) in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 14.6 percent lower compared to a week ago.
Those who require intubation have also declined by 4.8 percent from a week ago.
Nationally, the number of hospital admissions in the last seven days have declined by 31.7 percent compared to the preceding week.
However, bucking the national trend, hospital admissions in Perlis (221.2 percent), Terengganu (50.6 percent), Pahang (13.2 percent) and Malacca (11.9 percent) rose during the same period.
To date, 235 Covid-19 clusters are still active, including 9 new clusters reported today.
The ongoing clusters have seen an increase of 1.7 percent from the 231 active clusters a week ago.
The Health Ministry will only publish today's breakdown of new cases by states after midnight on its CovidNow portal.
