Covid-19 (Oct 10): 7,373 cases - lowest since July 7

COVID-19 | The number of new Covid-19 cases reported by the Health Ministry is 7,373 today, the lowest tally since the first week of July.

On July 7, the tally of new cases was 7,097 infections.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah posted the tally on his Facebook page, adding that the cumulative total was now 2,339,594 cases.

A state by state breakdown was not given.

The fresh infections today comprised 6,992 Malaysians (94.8 percent) and 381 non-citizens (5.2 percent).

They were surpassed by a total of 10,959 Covid-19 patients who recovered today. This is expected to help reduce the number of active cases.

  • Patients in ICU: 762 (702 confirmed; 60 suspected)
  • Intubated: 410 (293 confirmed; 117 probable)

As of today, the number of Covid-19 patients (including suspected ones) in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 11.4 percent lower compared to a week ago.

Those who require intubation have also declined by 14.2 percent from a week ago.

Noor Hisham also told Malaysians not to let their guard down as the number of cases and deaths fell, and the percentage of those fully vaccinated rose.

“Please don’t let your guard down.

“Although our adult vaccination rate is almost 90 percent this is not an excuse for us to take Covid-19 standard operating procedure for granted.

“We must continue to comply with all precautionary measures including self-testing. Please stay vigilant at all times,” he said.

 Clusters

To date, 810 Covid-19 clusters are still active, including eight new clusters reported today.

The ongoing clusters have fallen by 19.6 percent from 1,008 active clusters a week ago.

The eight new clusters today comprised five community clusters (62.5 percent), one workplace cluster (12.5 percent), one high-risk group cluster (12.5 percent) and one religious event cluster (12.5 percent).
