Covid-19 (Oct 5): 8,817 cases, only three states in four digits

COVID-19The Health Ministry reported 8,817 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative infections to 2,294,457.

West Malaysia made up 6,648 of the new cases or 75.4 percent while East Malaysia contributed to 2,169 of the fresh infections or 24.6 percent.

In Peninsular Malaysia, the Klang Valley was responsible for 1,588 or 23.9 percent of the new infections while the remaining 5,060 cases or 76.1 percent came from outside of the Klang Valley.

Sarawak topped the chart with 1,361 fresh infections.

Penang, Perak and Terengganu have seen improvements, recording the lowest fresh infections in more than two months.

New infections were surpassed by a total of 15,615 Covid-19 patients who recovered today. This is expected to help reduce the number of active cases.

  • Patients in ICU: 851 (815 confirmed; 36 suspected)
  • Intubated: 395 (332 confirmed; 63 probable)

As of today, the number of Covid-19 patients (including suspected ones) in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 13.6 percent lower compared to a week ago.

Those who require intubation have also declined by 29.8 percent from a week ago.

Clusters

To date, 956 Covid-19 clusters are still active, including 14 new clusters reported today. Overall, active clusters account for 619 (7.0 percent) of today's new cases.

The ongoing clusters have fallen by 16.9 percent from the 1,151 active clusters a week ago.

The 14 new clusters today comprised 10 workplace clusters (71.4 percent), two community clusters (14.3 percent), one high-risk group cluster (7.1 percent) and one involving a private educational institution (7.1 percent).
