Covid-19 deaths (Sept 20): 376 reported fatalities, raising total to 23,443
COVID-19 | The Health Ministry's Github data repository reported a total of 376 Covid-19 fatalities yesterday (Sept 19), bringing the cumulative death toll to 23,443.
This is the seventh-highest number of reported deaths on record in a single day. The highest record was 592 on Sept 11.
From the newly reported deaths yesterday, 19.95 percent or 75 died before they could receive treatment at a hospital.
Selangor recorded the highest number of new deaths at 148, making up 39.36 percent of the newly-reported fatalities.
The remaining deaths were in Johor (43), Sabah (35), Kelantan (32), Penang (29), Kedah (25), Sarawak (23), Kuala Lumpur (14), Perak (8), Terengganu (7), Pahang (6), Negeri Sembilan (4) and Malacca (2).
No new deaths were reported in Perlis, Labuan and Putrajaya.
A total of 194 out of the 376 reported deaths occurred in the last seven days, of which only seven were from yesterday.
The remaining reported deaths were older than a week due to backlog.
An average of 324 Covid-19 deaths was reported daily in the last 30 days. The seven-day average is 390.
As of yesterday, there were 210,468 active Covid-19 cases. This is a reduction of 11.30 percent compared to the 237,277 active infections a week ago.
Previously, the Health Ministry released Covid-19 death statistics together with the number of new coronavirus cases in the evening. This had since changed.
Deaths statistics are now released the next day, by 2am. Malaysiakini reports them in the morning.
