Covid-19 (Sept 3): 19,378 new cases, 330 deaths

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 19,378 new Covid-19 cases.

The Klang Valley continues to report less new cases than Sabah and Sarawak for a third day in a row, possibly signalling a shift in the Covid-19 epicentre.

The R-naught for Malaysia is continuing on a month-long downward trend and was 0.97 last night. A R-naught of less than 1.00 suggests that the spread of Covid-19 was slowing down.

The regions of Selangor, Malacca, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, Putrajaya and Negeri Sembilan all recorded a R-naught of less than 1.00.

Kuala Lumpur and Negeri Sembilan have the lowest R-naught. Both regions have above average vaccination rates and hospitalisation is steadily reducing. [See hospitalisation chart below]

The anomalous region is Sarawak which has an above average full vaccination rate of 63.3 percent but its hospitalisation rate and new daily cases has been trending up since mid-August.

Active cases are continuing on a seven-day downwards trend since peaking on Aug 28 while the number of confirm Covid-19 patients requiring intensive care have dipped below the 1,000 mark again after seven days.

  • Active cases: 259,189
  • Patients in ICU*: 975
  • Intubated*: 463

[*Confirmed Covid-19 positive patients only]
