Covid-19 (July 12): 8,574 new cases, active cases break 90,000 for the first time

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 8,574 new Covid-19 cases which dipped under 9,000 for the first time in four days.

However, the number of new infections in Selangor remained elevated. The state saw more than 4,000 new cases for the fifth consecutive day.

Kuala Lumpur dipped under 1,000 for the first time in a week.

A total of 5,041 Covid-19 patients recovered today but they were outpaced by new infections, contributing to a rise in active cases.

The active cases broke 90,000 for the first time since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country in Jan 2020.

  • Active cases: 91,272
  • Patients in ICUs: 964
  • Intubated: 452

Deaths

There were 102 fatalities today, bringing the death toll to 6,260.

The new deaths were recorded in Selangor (46), Kuala Lumpur (16), Negeri Sembilan (14), Pahang (7), Johor (6), Kedah (3), Malacca (3), Sabah (2), Penang (2), Sarawak (1), Perak (1) and Kelantan (1).

The youngest victim was a 29-year-old Malaysian man who died at Malacca Hospital. He was not reported to have suffered from any pre-existing conditions.

The remaining deaths were aged between 31 and 86.
