Covid-19 (July 11): 9,105 cases, record-high of 4,682 cases in Selangor
COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 9,105 new Covid-19 cases today, which is marginally less than yesterday's record-high of 9,353 Covid-19 cases.
However, Malaysia's most populated state of Selangor has set a new record with 4,682 cases, surpassing the previous high of 4,400 new cases and marking the fourth consecutive day in which it surpassed the 4,000-case benchmark.
The state now has a cumulative total of 286,352 cases out of 836,296 nationwide.
The new locally transmitted infections in the country comprised 81.85 percent Malaysians and 18.15 percent non-citizens.
The Klang Valley accounted for 65.79 percent (5,978 cases) of new local infections while East Malaysia made up 6.55 percent (595 cases).
A total of 5,194 Covid-19 patients recovered today but they were outpaced by new infections, contributing to a rise in active cases.
Active cases are now at the highest level since the start of the pandemic in the country in Jan 2020. The previous high was 86,628 on June 6.

Deaths
There were 91 fatalities today, bringing the death toll to 6,158.
The new deaths were recorded in Selangor (34), Kuala Lumpur (21), Negeri Sembilan (12), Malacca (8), Johor (6), Pahang (3), Kelantan (2), Sarawak (1), Perak (1), Kedah (1), Penang (1) and Labuan (1).
The youngest victim was a 24-year-old Malaysian man who died at Selayang Hospital. He previously also suffered from tuberculosis and lung disease.
The remaining deaths were aged between 31 and 92.
