Covid-19 (July 2) - 6,982 new cases, situation worsens in S'gor
COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 6,982 new Covid-19 cases with Selangor reporting numbers at levels not seen since June 3.
Active Covid-19 cases have been steadily trending upwards despite "total lockdown" since June 1, while the number of patients requiring intensive care or are intubated have remained stable over the past week.

In Selangor, one in five new Covid-19 cases were only detected after the victim complained of symptoms but are not linked to existing clusters nor were they close contacts.
There were a relatively high 21 new cases in Selangor which were reported only after a victim was diagnosed for severe acute respiratory infection.
At the national level, the R-naught has reached 1.06, continuing on a six-day uptrend. A R-naught of more than 1.00 indicated that the spread of Covid-19 is accelerating.
The only regions where the R-naught was less than 1.00 are Sabah, Penang, Johor, Kelantan, Labuan, Kedah, Sarawak and Terengganu.
Terengganu remains the only state which is showing any significant progress in reducing new daily case counts.
Deaths
The Health Ministry reported 73 new deaths attributed to Covid-19 today, bringing the death toll to 5,327.
Selangor (29) reported the most deaths followed by Negeri Sembilan (13), Sabah (5), Kuala Lumpur (5), Johor (4), Sarawak (4), Pahang (4), Labuan (3), Kelantan (2), Penang (2), Kedah (1) and Malacca (1).
There were another 13 victims who were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
According to the Health Ministry the number of Covid-19 victims who are brought in dead (BID) to the hospital in June was seven times higher than in April.
Most are the victims were were located either in Selangor or Kuala Lumpur and were age 50 and above.

There are currently 877 active Covid-19 clusters, down from 887 reported yesterday. A cluster only expires after 28 days of zero new cases.
There were 17 new clusters that were classified today of which nine were workplace clusters.
