Covid-19 (May 29) - New record high: 9,020 cases, 98 dead

The Health Ministry today reported 9,020 new Covid-19 cases, setting a record high for the fifth consecutive day.

It also reported 98 deaths, a sharp rise from the previous record of 63 deaths on Wednesday.

The number of active cases, patients in ICU, and those requiring ventilator support are also at all time highs.

  • Active cases: 76,218
  • Patients in ICU: 844*
  • Intubated: 430*

(*These figures do not include those in intensive care who are suspected of having Covid-19 and are awaiting test results.)

The rapid rise in cases has prompted the government, previously reluctant, to finally agree to a "total lockdown" that will take effect on Tuesday.
