Covid-19 (Feb 10): 3,288 new cases, 14 deaths

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 3,288 new Covid-19 cases and 14 deaths. 

The Covid-19 death toll stood at 923. Approximately 57.5 percent of new cases reported today involved Malaysians. 

  • Active cases: 52,186 (new record)
  • Patients in ICU: 285
  • Intubated: 131

Since the movement control order (MCO) began on Jan 13, new cases in the territories of Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Malacca and Johor are still trending upwards.

In Selangor - the region with the highest number of new cases for two weeks - the number of new Covid-19 cases detected among those with symptoms but are not linked to clusters or close contacts has been dropping steadily since Feb 5.

Deaths

The Klang Valley logged the highest number of deaths (6). Currently, this region had reported 272 Covid-19 deaths and is the second-worst hit after Sabah (351).

All 14 victims reported today are Malaysian citizens, the youngest being 36. Today say the first victim to die at a private hospital ever since the government roped in the private sector to treat Covid-19 patients. Details of the victims are on Malaysiakini's Covid-19 tracker page.

Clusters

The Tanjung Suria cluster, first announced in early December, saw a resurgence with 356 new cases reported today. 

This cluster involved the districts of Sepang, Gombak, Kuala Selangor and Hulu Selangor in Selangor. This cluster currently has 1,087 active cases and 10,569 individuals have been tested.

The Health Ministry today classified 11 new clusters. One cluster - Jalan Uda Utama - involved the Johor state government complex.
