Covid-19 (Dec 19): 1,153 new cases, 60 pct of them in Klang Valley

The Health Ministry reported 1,153 new cases of Covid-19 as noon today with one death.

Selangor reported the most number of cases (34.8 percent) followed by Kuala Lumpur (24.4 percent) and Sabah (17.3 percent).

Leading indicators:

  • Active cases: 15,294 ↑ (154 more than the previous day, new record)

  • Patients in ICU: 112 ↑ (six more than the previous day)

  • Intubated patients: 56 ↑ (five more than the previous day)

  • Deaths: 1

The deceased, 'Patient 75,991' was a 76-year-old Malaysian female who died at the Penang Hospital.

The national death toll is now at 433.

Of today's cases, 96 were linked to the Penjara Jalan Harapan cluster and 80 cases were from the Tembok cluster which involved an immigration depot.

Meanwhile, there were five new clusters reported today.

The Tapak Bina Jalan Zuhrah cluster in Petaling, Selangor first detected cases through workplace screening on Dec 14. It has 49 positive cases thus far.

The Keris Residence cluster in Kota Kinabalu and Tuaran, Sabah has 41 positive cases thus far. The index case tested positive on Dec 12.

The Jalan Timah cluster in Johor Bahru, and Kulai, Johor has 26 positive cases thus far. The index case tested positive on Dec 18.

The Brumas cluster in Kalabakan, Sabah has 16 positive cases thus far. The index case tested positive on Dec 8.

The Long Panji cluster in Kota Bharu and Machang, Kelantan has 11 cases thus far. The index case tested positive on Dec 15.
