Covid-19 (Dec 3): 1,075 new cases, 11 deaths

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 1,075 new Covid-19 cases and 11 deaths over a 24-hour period ending noon today. 

The new deaths were reported in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Sabah, Johor, and Kelantan.

The highest daily Covid-19 casualty count was 12 on Nov 3.

Leading indicators:

  • Active cases: 10,802 ↑ (116 more than the previous day)
  • Patients in ICU: 116 ↓ (6 less than the previous day)
  • Intubated patients: 46 ↓ (1 less than the previous day)
  • Deaths: 11 (second highest on record)

The highest number of new cases were reported in the Klang Valley region (47.3 percent) followed by Sabah (28.8 percent), and Johor (7.3 percent).

About 78 percent of the new cases in the Klang Valley could be traced to existing or new clusters, or close contacts, while 22 percent were detected through "other screenings", which include screening after developing symptoms, pre-surgery screening, and workplace screening, among others.

The average age of the 11 victims reported today was 72. There were five deaths reported in Selangor and two in Sabah.

The cumulative Covid-19 death toll for Sabah has reached 216 or 57.4 percent of the national total (376).

Details of the victims - all locals - are as follows:

Patient 23,536 - female, 72, passed away at the Sungai Buloh hospital in Selangor.

Patient 40,949 - female, 70, passed away at the Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan.

Patient 45,696 - female, 74, passed away at the Sungai Buloh Hospital. No comorbidity.

Patient 48,520 - male, 79, passed away at the Sungai Buloh Hospital.

Patient 52,129 - male, 64, passed away at the Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan, Sabah.

Patient 52,599 - female, 71, passed away at the Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital in Kluang, Johor.

Patient 56,656 - female, 72, passed away at the Raja Perempuan Zainah II Hospital in Kota Bharu, Kelantan.

Patient 62,601 - female, 77, passed away at the Sungai Buloh Hospital.

Patient 63,565 - male, 81, passed away at the Sungai Buloh Hospital.

Patient 67,156 - female, 50, passed away at the Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital in Kluang, Johor.

Patient 67,391 - male, 79, passed away at the Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan, Sabah.

Of the 1,075 new cases reported, three cases were imported. Putrajaya and Perlis did not report new cases.

The Health Ministry is currently tracking 184 active Covid-19 clusters, of which 43 reported new cases today.

The existing cluster with the highest number of cases is the Usaha cluster (84). Not much is known about this cluster aside from that the index case was discovered in the Klang district in Selangor.

The other clusters with a high number of cases came from the Kaya cluster (74) and the Hentian cluster (60). The Kaya cluster is believed to involve MASKargo staff at KLIA while the Hentian cluster involved foreign citizens residing at the Kajang bus station vicinity.

The Health Ministry also classified four new clusters.

The Monsoon cluster involved the Petaling district in Selangor and currently has 19 cases. The index case was diagnosed on Nov 29 after reporting symptoms.

The Jalan Kilang cluster involved the Lahad Datu district in Sabah and currently has 24 cases. The index case was diagnosed on Nov 15 and discovered when screening was conducted at a factory.

The Perdana Enam cluster also involved the Lahad Datu district with 25 cases. The index case was diagnosed on Nov 22 after reporting symptoms.

The Jalan Kubota cluster involved the Tawau district in Sabah and has 14 cases so far. The index case was diagnosed on Nov 25 after reporting symptoms.
