Covid-19 (Nov 2): 834 new cases, active cases dip below 10,000 mark

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 834 new Covid-19 cases and 900 recoveries in the 24-hour period ending noon today.

The total number of active cases has dipped below the 10,000 mark and there were two new deaths reported.

Leading indicators in brief:

  • Active cases = 9,968 ↓ (83 fewer than previous day)
  • Patients in intensive care = 91 ↓ (6 fewer than previous day)
  • Intubated patients = 32 ↑ (5 more than previous day)
  • Deaths = 2

All newly reported deaths were from Sabah. The cumulative death toll for Sabah alone is 119, or 47.4 percent of the national death toll (251).

Both deceased were Malaysian citizens. From their case numbers, they were likely to have been warded since the second week of October.

Sabah continued to report the highest number of new cases (60.3 percent) followed by the Klang Valley regions (18.8 percent) and Labuan (11.24 percent).

These three regions accounted for 91.7 percent of new cases in the country.

Of the 834 new cases, only three did not involve local transmission. A breakdown of the 831 new locally-transmitted Covid-19 cases are as follows:

Sabah (503 new cases)

  • Existing clusters - 42 cases
  • PTS Tawau cluster - 42 cases
  • Close contact screening- 292 cases
  • Other types of screening - 127 cases

Selangor (129 new cases)

  • Existing clusters - 49 cases
  • Close contact screening - 52 cases
  • Screening of person with symptoms - 1 case
  • Other types of screening - 27 cases

Labuan (105 new cases)

  • Existing clusters - 34 cases
  • Tenaga cluster - 57 cases
  • Close contact screening - 9 cases
  • Other types of screening - 5 cases

Penang (21 new cases)

  • Existing clusters - 14 cases
  • Close contact screening - 7 cases

Kuala Lumpur (20 new cases)

  • Existing clusters - 7 cases
  • Close contact screening - 5 cases

Negeri Sembilan (16 new cases)

According to Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah's press briefing today, the number of RT-PCR tests completed yesterday was 22,814 (42 percent of capacity)

The cumulative RTK antigen tests conducted for Sabah alone as of yesterday was 108,642 of which 5 percent returned positive.

As for RTK antigen tests conducted in Sabah yesterday (3,264), the positive rate was 1.9 percent.

The Health Ministry classified five new clusters today.

The largest of the new clusters was the PTS Tawau cluster, which involved a detention centre in Tawau, Sabah.

The index case (patient 15,423) reported symptoms on Oct 5. So far, 104 individuals have tested positive in this cluster while 1,567 more test results are pending.

The Tenaga cluster involved Labuan, whereby the index case was identified following a screening of a "high risk" community on Nov 2. So far, 57 individuals have tested positive and 46 test results are pending.

The Gedong cluster involved the states of Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, and Johor, and the territory of Putrajaya. The index case reported symptoms on Oct 27 and was warded at the Rembau Hospital in Negeri Sembilan. So far, 12 cases have been attributed to this cluster.

The Wisma Saberkas cluster involved the Kuching district in Sarawak, where the index case reported symptoms on Oct 30. So far, eight cases have been attributed to this cluster.

The Seridana cluster involved the territory of Putrajaya where the index case reported symptoms on Oct 31. So far,  five cases have been attributed to this cluster.
