Official: GRS wins Sabah elections with two-seat majority
SABAH POLLS | Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) comprising BN, Perikatan Nasional and PBS clinched 38 out of 73 seats to win the 16th Sabah state elections held yesterday.
This has been confirmed by the Election Commission (EC).
The EC tally said that Warisan Plus secured 32 seats while independent candidates won three seats.
As counting of ballots was underway last night, Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainuddin was reported as saying that GRS was winning the Sabah polls.
However, the home minister said they were not making any announcement as yet until all results were officially confirmed.
"We don't want to declare it yet. Because it is all unofficial.
"But we know that we are going to [...] unofficially, we are going to take over the state (government).
"We will make sure everything is confirmed, then only we make an announcement," he told reporters when met at the Perikatan Nasional operations centre in Kota Kinabalu at about 9pm yesterday.
Hamzah was asked about the unofficial results that showed GRS components capturing 37 seats to secure a simple majority in the Sabah state legislative assembly.
Sabah has a total of 73 state seats.
