YOURSAY | Hard to win two-thirds majority on Malay votes alone

YOURSAY | ‘Hadi apparently predicts Harapan will only be able to get 17 seats in the peninsula...’

Snap polls: Hadi believes two-thirds majority within reach for PAS-Umno-Bersatu combo

Newday: It is expected that PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang seeks “to increase Malay representation in Parliament”.

It’s so embarrassing and ultimately frustrating for many Malays, including my family and my friends, that this fixation still exists in 2020.

We have seen with our own eyes the damage and schisms wrought on this country through actions based on the idea that Malays must dominate every echelon of society, especially the government and its related agencies.

Supremacy at its worst is being thrown in our faces daily when all we want is people of all kinds to apply themselves for the good of the entire population and not just for the few.

I am not conned by Hadi and the others. It’s about time that the 70 percent of Malays who blindly accept this supremacist garbage don’t as well.

How to, though? Hadi and his ilk have cast the fog of religion and intertwined it with this rhetoric for some years.

While Pakatan Harapan was in power, they had the opportunity to start different religious rhetoric but they blew it. Amanah demonised liberal Muslims and then education minister Maszlee Malik failed to curb religious excesses in schools.

If some version of Harapan is successful come GE15, they better get into action and reverse this religious and racial supremacy once and for all.

Bobby0: For Hadi, it is not about how to lift the nation to the level of a successful nation. It has been nothing but Malay supremacy.

What about real capable Malay leaders? What about competing with the world out there that doesn’t care two hoots about race or religion? What about the best education system that will put the Malays on the world map?

Nothing of that sort ever comes out of Hadi's mouth or any of the leaders from PAS.

The Covid-19 pandemic is not over. The damage done to the economy has been very severe. There are still many areas that have not recovered and will take time to get back on their feet.

In the meantime, we might see more industries shut down, especially those involved in tourism. Even factories today have not reached the capacity they were at before.

So, if we do not focus on these major issues but rather on race and religion, we will be left far behind. The nations around us are burning the midnight oil. Their people will not stop working until life gets back to normal.

In time, those nations would outpace us. Even Thailand and Indonesia.

So Hadi, wake up. Do not turn this nation into another Kelantan. We need leaders of calibre and integrity to take this nation forward.

With his attitude and mindset, I won't be surprised that one day, Hadi's grandchildren would end up working in a neighbouring country because there are not enough jobs for our people.

Vgeorgemy: To get a two-thirds majority, the Perikatan Nasional (PN) alliance requires 148 seats in the Dewan Rakyat.

There are 165 out of 222 seats in Peninsular Malaysia. So Hadi apparently predicts Harapan will only be able to get 17 seats in the peninsula.

Hadi knows he can’t count on 57 seats in East Malaysia to implement his extremist policy as PAS can’t even introduce RU355 (proposed amendments to Syariah Courts [Criminal Jurisdiction] Act).

Why does he spread misinformation based on deceitful racist politics?

Clever Voter: Hadi got his prediction wrong. He even placed his bet on former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Today, the better-informed electorates are not exactly appreciating what is taking place at the political front.

Indeed, many are angry at the irresponsible and crooked politicians, for turning Parliament into a cheap institution where any MP can trade and sell his or her membership for a price.

IndigoTrout2522: More and more Malay parties are being formed and their goal is a Malay-Islamic government.

With a two-thirds majority, they can change the Constitution to their liking. Umno/PAS/Bersatu, and even Pejuang, share the same platform and Hadi aims to be PM.

Their only obstacle is Harapan under the leadership of Anwar Ibrahim on the platform of multiracialism and economic growth while taking care of the poor.

Myviews: Malaysians, wake up! Do not take things easy. For the PAS-Umno-Bersatu combo to have a two-thirds majority, it means a licence to change the Constitution at their whims and fancy.

It may not necessarily be for the good of the majority race as has been proven by the theft and plunder over the last 60 years.

As for the non-Malays, they have been resigned to the fact that theirs is a lost cause and they do not care come what may.

VP Biden: Hadi, you are insulting the Malays who know right from wrong. Your assumptions might cause you to eat your words in GE14.

There are many Malays who want a just and transparent government with integrity sans convicted criminals and power-hungry politicians who are more interested in their positions.

Cogito Ergo Sum: Yes, push for snap polls, please. You will get a valuable lesson on politics.

You mean under Harapan, the Malays were not in control or dominant in the coalition? You must be intellectually challenged.
