DG: No more daily Covid-19 pressers from next week
CORONAVIRUS | After more than three months of being a constant fixture for many during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Health Ministry’s press conference will cease to be a daily affair from next week.
Nevertheless, director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah assured that the ministry will continue to provide the public with the latest statistics on the virus.
“We will continue to provide the latest information but perhaps we will space out the press conferences next week,” he said during the end of today’s Covid-19 briefing.
He did not provide details on the new press conference schedule. His Covid-19 briefing tomorrow will proceed as usual.
A ministry official later confirmed that daily updates will continue in the form of press statements.
This change comes as Covid-19 cases in Malaysia have trended downwards in recent weeks.
Noor Hisham has held daily live-streamed Covid-19 briefings from Feb 27, taking just two days for a break in-between, once on May 9 and the other on the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
As of noon today, the country recorded 43 new cases, 143 recoveries and one death.
Out of the total 8,445 cases, 1,014 (12 percent) are active cases while 7,311 patients (86.6 percent) have recovered and been discharged.
The 120 death toll accounts for 1.4 percent of all cases.
