YOURSAY | What’s up with DAP, Amanah’s obsession with Dr M?
YOURSAY | ‘Despite having been cheated by him more than once, they still want to crawl back to him.’
Mahathir meets Harapan, Warisan leaders but PKR is no show
And Justice For All: PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, you and your party must stand your ground. Don’t let former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad hijack the Pakatan Harapan cause for his own.
If he doesn’t agree with your appointment as prime minister now, he never will. We will be back to square one maybe six months or a year from now.
And if he dies, then what? Who takes over? Or is it going to be another free for all with Umno and PAS being kingmakers again, stealing the government through alliances of disgruntled members of Parliament?
No, Harapan needs to answer all this today or leave things as they are. DAP and Amanah need to wake up and realise too with whom they are making deals with.
These are people who for months held secret negotiations to screw everyone. It doesn’t matter if they went through with it or not.
The fact that they opened the door, protected, facilitated and gave hope to the idea is so very telling who these people are.
YellowCobra0968: It is never advisable to make Mahathir prime minister again. He never will change his character which is revengeful, selfish, immortal, manipulative and a superiority complex where it is “his way” or “no way”.
That is one of the reasons that even his own son, Mukhriz, can’t progress in politics although Mahathir is such a brilliant politician - the old man doesn't know when to give in and let the younger ones take the lead.
At the same time, he doesn’t instil good morals in the younger politicians following his footsteps.
Besides, Mahathir likes to do all the work by himself without giving others the opportunity to do so. Also, he never can stand the sight of anyone equal in ability to him.
For example, when Prime Minister and Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin was the home minister in Mahathir’s administration, his presence was barely noticeable and most decisions came from the old man.
Thus, if the old man becomes PM for the third time, he will still continue his autocratic ways and make the people lose confidence in Harapan again, making it difficult for them to win the next election.
In my opinion, either Anwar becomes PM or Harapan stays away from Mahathir. If the old man still wants to be in the government, give him the post of mentor or senior minister, which is befitting for an experienced politician like him.
Fair Play: Mahathir has apparently hijacked Harapan with the support of DAP, Amanah and Warisan to try to overthrow Perikatan Nasional (PN). And Mahathir wants to be the top dog in Harapan again.
Anwar could not and would not let Mahathir play his game of musical chairs and leave him (Anwar) out in the cold once again. Besides, Anwar went on record to say that he accepted the fact he may not be PM in this lifetime.
It looks like the biggest fools might be DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang as well as Amanah president Mohamad Sabu. Despite being cheated by Mahathir more than once, they still want to crawl back to him.
Truly Malaysian: What is up with DAP and Amanah’s obsession with the Mahathir? Please show some confidence and backbone.
UC Davis: If DAP continues to give support to the old man, they will lose half of the non-Malay votes.
Does DAP not remember who was the key feature of the Malay Dignity Congress? Does DAP have short memories or are they intentionally forgetting everything for position and rewards?
BlueShark1548: It looks like those who want Anwar as PM are prepared to allow PN to rule, plunder and mismanage our country whilst building their war chest for GE15.
They seemed confident that Anwar could win GE15 with his limited resources and personal baggage which many ignored.
There is no way Anwar at age 75 can win GE15. Umno is not going to make the same mistakes and it will be back in power.
Now is the only chance for Harapan to take back federal power; if not now, it is never.
P Ramlee: PKR held party elections just four months after the last general election and the subsequent infighting resulted in the collapse of Harapan government.
When given the chance to have an audience with our beloved king to nominate Mahathir as the PM again, they blew it by sticking with Anwar.
Now with this the third and final chance to allow Mahathir to take back control from the backdoor politicians, I hope PKR will do the right thing or all right-minded Malaysians will not forgive them in future elections.
Daylight: You really can’t please everyone. If Anwar and PKR attended the meeting called by Mahathir, they would have been criticised for having no dignity and not learning from past lessons of being humiliated by Mahathir.
However, if they attend the meeting chaired by Mahathir, the inevitable assumption is that Mahathir will be PM again should Harapan++ reclaims the government.
It’s the right move for Anwar and PKR not to attend. In any case, DAP and Amanah will be PKR’s proxy because both DAP and Amanah are still part of Harapan while Bersatu is not.
Mazilamani: The signs are getting clearer by the day that the trust for Harapan is eroding on a daily basis. Why should Mahathir be calling the shots when he does not belong to any party?
Anwar or PKR might be right by not attending the meeting. I am surprised that Guan Eng, DAP organising secretary Loke Anthony and Mat Sabu were present.
Without PKR, the remnants of Harapan can go nowhere. PKR has had enough of the ever-changing promises of one man. Harapan is today paying heavily for the karma of that man.
