Auditor-general down with Covid-19 and 8 news from yesterday

KINI ROUNDUP | Key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

1. The National Audit Department confirmed a memo that auditor-general Nik Azman Nik Abdul Majid (above) has been infected with Covid-19.

2. Health Ministry director-general Noor Hisham Abdullah said 35 people including the prime minister were in a meeting with Nik Azman. They had tested negative but must undergo quarantine and retest at the end of the quarantine period.

3. Analysts said there is no need for Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, who is under quarantine, to appoint an acting prime minister as he is not incapacitated and modern technology allows him to manage the country.

4. Muhyiddin, in a Hari Raya address, indicated that the country will rely on community leaders to enforce rules on Covid-19 in its exit plan from the conditional movement control order.

5. The country recorded 48 new Covid-19 cases, almost half from a new cluster at the Semenyih immigration detention depot.

6. Sacked PKR division chief Zakaria Abdul Hamid replaced actor and film producer Hans Isaac as the new National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) chairperson.

7. Bersatu's Bertam representative Khalid Mehtab Mohd Ishaq and Teluk Bahang representative Zolkifli Md Lazim renounced Pakatan Harapan in Penang.

8. Penang Bersatu chief Marzuki Yahya, who is aligned with disputed chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad against party president Muhyiddin Yassin, maintained that the state chapter will remain with Harapan despite its rebel state assemblypersons.

9. Marzuki also revealed that 10 MPs who defected from PKR, led by Gombak MP Azmin Ali, have yet to submit their application to join Bersatu.
