Vijay47: In a realm where idiocy is king together with cash, Human Resources Minister M Saravanan seems to have outdone anyone else with his unique logic in defending his appointing of Shahul Hameed Dawood as the CEO of the Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF).

So Shahul is worthy of heading HRDF as his grandfather, SOK Ubaidullah Kadir Basha, was a founding father of MIC? Despite Ubaidullah’s relationship with MIC, I vaguely remember him as a man of honour much respected in the country.

Thus, we learn from Saravanan that not only are the sins of the father visited upon the son, similar bequeathment accompanies the grandfather’s glory.

I did not know anything about Shahul but his close association with and support for controversial preacher Dr Zakir Naik immediately disqualifies him from any public post, notwithstanding possible skill in catching mice.

So tell me, Saravanan, for how many generations does this transfer of esteem from ancestor to descendant extend? I believe that in the legendary character Mahsuri’s case it was seven generations; but of course, hers was a curse on Langkawi, obviously still in operation.

Shahul’s grandson and his grandson should not worry about further employment.

Speaking The Truth: The criteria for appointing someone to the post of CEO should not be based on his relationship with Mr X, Y or Z but rather his qualification and credentials to lead the organisation.

Actually, the board should play a key role in the appointment of the CEO. It should first draw up the qualifications necessary for the position.

There should be a proper process of identifying qualified candidates, shortlisting and interviewing and then selecting the best of the lot. If the board is not involved, how do you expect it to be responsible for the success of the organisation?

Tag: The Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) should insist the position of CEO of HRDF be headhunted and the best person that fits the job be appointed.

After all, the CEO is responsible for the good management of the funds contributed by employers and to ensure the best returns of the investment in terms of skill developments. It cannot be the prerogative of the minister.

Pingpong: Grandson, great-grandson, son, daughter, brother, sister, nephew, niece, children, brother-in-law, sister-in-law - never knew this was the criteria to get political postings.

I always thought academic qualification, experience, et cetera, were the criteria considered. Saravanan has set new standards in Malaysia.

Many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of MIC leaders are around - some in the MIC and some on the fringes supporting MIC's activities but not wanting to be in the party.

These folks are very qualified in their own professional capacities as engineers, lawyers and whatnot and could anytime be better than this Shahul's credentials.

Saravanan can still change his mind as the last thing he needs is to have a bad start in his own attempts to revamp his ministry.

Legit: The position of the chief executive officer requires the person to be astute in finance, management, economics, human resource, et cetera, and of good character. What has being the grandson of Ubaidullah got to do with this?

Moreover, this Shahul has strong links with a religious bigot and an alleged money launderer and terrorist who has only caused religious and racial conflicts in this country.

Saravanan and the PN government should rescind his appointment immediately.

R Venugopal: How can you compare Ubaidullah with Shahul in terms of service to the community, especially to Indians?

Think of the welfare of the nation and find competent people to lead an organisation that brings value.

Anyway, it seems Saravanan can appoint any person of his choice regardless of their capability as this is the PN government. I wish him good luck and let us see how long they last.

What are Shahul's credentials? Does he have the knowledge and experience to head such a body?

What are we descending into? This is a clear indication that we are going downhill with Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the driver's seat of the government.

PN is a joke. Their appointments are meant to buy the support of the person rather than putting someone who qualifies to helm the position.

So then, a grandson of former party leader S Samy Velu should also take over MIC's president position. Saravanan's logic is mind-boggling.

Semi Value: Dear minister, we never asked you to appoint an Indian to head the HRDF. It's about the person with the right credentials for the post, especially with the country going to face high unemployment after Covid-19.

Shahul has zero knowledge in human resource and training, as he is the CEO of an event management company.
