Free face masks well-received by public

CORONAVIRUS | The public has begun receiving free face masks from the government which are being delivered directly to their homes to help curb the spread of Covid-19.

Many have taken to social media to share photographs of the face masks that they have received while expressing their thanks to the government.

“Thank you Malaysian government… directly delivered to my house,” said a Facebook user Fiena Ramli.

Pokle Abraham, through his Facebook posting, said: “Yeah received face masks from the government #stayhome”.

Ramly Nadzirah in a Facebook posting shared that he had received the face masks which were placed in his letterbox.

“Alhamdulillah, we received the face masks today, placed in my letterbox. Have you guys received it? Thank you Malaysian government,” he wrote.

Another Facebook user Taufiq Yusof posted “Thank you… a ‘brother’ riding a motorcycle distributed the face masks from one home to another on a hot sunny day. Thank you, may he always be blessed,” he said.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Ismail Sabri Yaakob had said previously that some 24.62 million face masks were in the process of being distributed to the people nationwide for free.

He said each household will receive four pieces and the task of channelling them to the respective State Security Councils would be coordinated by the Civil Defence Force (APM).

The increased public awareness on the threat of Covid-19 has led to the steep rise in the demand for face masks in the country.

It has also caused a sharp increase in the prices of face masks forcing the government to set a ceiling price for the item.
