Terengganu launches Covid-19 aid fund

CORONAVIRUS | The Terengganu government today launched the state Covid-19 Aid Fund to provide an opportunity for all quarters to contribute towards helping those who are adversely affected by the spread of the virus.

Menteri Besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar (photo) said to get the ball rolling, he and the 10 state executive council members are deducting 50 percent of their monthly salary for two months to the fund.

“The extended period of the movement control order will have a huge impact on the socio-economy of the people in the country.

“Therefore, I appeal for more donors, including corporate and private companies, to come forward to help ease the burden of people affected by Covid-19," he said in a statement on the menteri besar’s Facebook page today.

He said those wishing to contribute to the fund could do so at Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad account number 13017010034566, while cheques should be made under the name “Tetuan Akauntan Negeri Terengganu”.

The contribution is eligible for tax exemption, he added.

On the economic stimulus package announced by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday, Ahmad Samsuri said it was a comprehensive package that could bring relief to those adversely affected by the pandemic. - Bernama
