RM5.8m from Covid-19 fund to be used for the people

CORONAVIRUS | The government's Tabung Covid-19 has received RM8.129 million in donations thus far.

Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said of this amount, RM5.8 million will be used to help the people, especially the poor.

"The Women, Family, and Community Development Ministry will be distributing food supplies to the poor and those who meet certain criteria," he said, adding the details will be announced by the ministry.

He was speaking at a press conference in Putrajaya today.

Ismail also reiterated the government's plans to distribute free face masks to 8.63 million Malaysian households for free.

He said the government has purchased the face masks and is awaiting for the shipment to arrive.

He added that the Health Ministry will advise on who needs to wear masks.

The Health Ministry had previously said that except for frontliners, the general public need not wear masks unless they are showing Covid-19 symptoms.
