New ministers sworn in, and 8 news from yesterday

KINI ROUNDUP | Here are key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

1. All 31 ministers and deputy ministers were sworn in, signifying the completion of Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's cabinet.

2. Newly-minted Deputy Education Minister Dr Mah Hang Soon said he needed more time on the new government's policy towards the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) while PAS vice-president Mohd Amar Abdullah said it was too early for the new federal government to discuss amendments to the Syariah Court (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965, which it has long pushed for.

3. PDP president Tiong King Sing, who is part of the GPS coalition, rejected the position of deputy national unity minister in the new government. His party said it was unbefitting for a party chief.

4. The number of Covid-19 cases in Malaysia climbed to 129, with 12 new cases.

5. Former Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad will head Selangor's task force to tackle Covid-19.

6. Ahmad Faizal Azumu resigned as Perak menteri besar after his party switched sides to form a new coalition with the opposition. Bersatu has resubmitted his name for menteri besar, but PAS and Umno are also putting up their own candidates.

7. PKR president Anwar Ibrahim said would-be traitors in his party should quit now.

8. Former deputy women, family and community development minister Hannah Yeoh expressed concern at the appointment of PAS' Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff as her successor as the latter had previously voiced support for child marriage.

9. The Health Ministry said it is not revealing details such as locations of Covid-19 infections to avoid stigma and also to respect confidentiality.
