Swearing-in of 12th Malacca chief minister postponed to Monday
Malacca governor Mohd Khalil Yaakob has decided to postpone the swearing-in ceremony of the 12th chief minister to March 9.
This was announced in a media statement by the state government's secretary Hasim Hasan today.
The swearing-in of the 12th chief minister will take place at Dewan Seri Utama at the governor's office at 3.30 pm.
There's no reason stated in regards to the postponement in the media release.
Earlier today, Malacca BN chief Abdul Rauf Yusoh said that BN with assemblypersons Norhizam Hassan Baktee (Pengkalan Batu) and Muhammad Jailani Khamis (Rembia), who defected from DAP and PKR respectively, will be forming a new coalition supported by statutory declarations, which they will present to the governor.
They have 15 assemblypersons which is enough to form the state government with a simple majority.
There are 28 seats in the Malacca state legislative assembly.
This was despite BN retracting cooperation with two Bersatu assemblypersons Mohd Rafiq Naizamohidee (Paya Rumput) and Noor Effandi Ahmad (Teluk Mas).
Subsequently, the English daily New Straits Times reported that all 15 assemblypersons met Khalil at the latter's office.
Former chief minister Idris Haron was among those who were present to submit fresh SDs to Khalil to form a new state government.
On Tuesday, former chief minister Adly Zahari said he was informed by Malacca Governor Mohd Khalil Yaakob that his service had been terminated after losing majority support in the state assembly.
Adly also said he had proposed for the state assembly to be dissolved, but his request was rejected by the governor.
