S'gor PKR won't betray voters, stands firm with Harapan state gov't

Selangor PKR will continue to support the Pakatan Harapan state government and would not turn its back on voters who gave the coalition the mandate in the last general election, said its chief Amirudin Shari.

Amiruddin, who is Selangor menteri besar, also pledged to pursue Harapan's struggles under the leadership of PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.

“As the pillar of Harapan in Selangor, PKR stands firm to fulfil the people's mandate.

“I and 18 other Selangor PKR assemblypersons give our full support to strengthen the resolve and to provide the best service to the Selangor people.

"Selangor PKR also reiterates its promise to continue to be loyal and committed to DAP and Amanah... Harapan will not waste the trust of the people," he added in a statement today.

Selangor first fell into the hands of PKR and its allies in the 2008 general election. The then opposition coalition, which was Harapan's predecessor, was known as Pakatan Rakyat and included PAS.

Despite BN's best efforts to recapture the resource-rich state, Selangor remained in the hands of Pakatan Rakyat in the 2013 national polls, and later Harapan in the 2018 election.

Since the routing of the Harapan federal government, the coalition-led state governments in Malacca and Johor have also collapsed while its hold on Perak and Kedah remains precarious.

The federal government fell after Bersatu, led by president Muhyiddin Yassin, along with several rogue PKR members spearheaded by former deputy president Azmin Ali, exited the coalition to enter the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition with Umno/BN and PAS.

PN is also supported by the 18 MPs from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

Muhyiddin was later sworn in as the new prime minister.
